Even those of us informed enough to have some idea of the "bigger picture," well how do you get informed enough to do that? Generally, you have to spend a lot of time in solitary study, be it on the net or reading books or what have you. So it's a catch-22.
Those informed enough to organize an effective revolt usually have their noses too deep in books or in the net to actually do much. In other words, the complexity of the system requires people to hyper-specialize in order to understand it, even if they wanted to understand it in order to eliminate or change it.
So in one's attempt to change it, one actually gets sucked into it in a weird way, as they need to A) isolate themselves to a certain degree and B) develop a highly specialized body of knowledge. Both A and B, of course, are characteristics of globalized society (human isolation and hyper-specialization).
